Spraying diligently to control pests is not the answer once the dam is removed. How is the township going to replace any lost wetlands when the dam is removed? The public has to call the township to remove the debris from the floodgate in the race for that to be removed or even to empty the trashcans and you think that you are going to stay on top of maintaining the race? Also, what have you done about the abundant blackfly population?
Last year, I organized a litter cleanup for the Great PA cleanup where we removed all of the debris from the floodgate as well as around the village. Many of us in the village have kept that race running for MANY years on our own. Interestingly enough, for every activity that I have done for the township, either a cleanup, presentation on wellhead protection or otherwise, not one supervisor has ever attended. It is time that the township supervisors and township staff started working with the public since that is what you were elected/hired to do, represent our interests. Am I correct in saying that you held one public meeting on the dam and decided to remove it that night?
You have no idea what you are going to do to biological diversity in the preserve once you remove the dam. I hope you took my advice when I emailed the townhip last year and recommended that you get a copy of the report that was written after the Barnitz Mill dam was removed to see what ramifications will exist.
Please make sure you know all of the facts before that dam comes down. You have a lot of people in this community who have education and experience when it comes to environmental and planning issues. You need to harness that talent rather than fight it all of the time.
Our supervisors didn't fight the cell tower due to $$$$$, now you want to remove a dam that will cost a lot of $$$$$ rather than leave it alone and spend a few thousand on signage. Many people find it interesting that the week of the public meeting, someone had an accident on the dam.
